Flat 3d isometric businessman being throw up in the air by his team, business success and the expression of love and respect for team leader By Jiw Ingka, shuttershock.png

Celebrating someone else’s achievement costs nothing and creates heroes in my book.

I love the Olympics, I love the swimming, the diving, athletics, gymnastics, well, I guess all of it really. But as someone who is not personally very competitive it’s not the fight that I’m loving – it’s the pride, the honour, the celebration, the support, and the comradery.  To see such professionals in their fields high-five, hug and shake hands in the spirit of celebration makes my heart smile.

Celebrating someone else’s achievement costs nothing and creates heroes in my book.
Sport is also the arena where people can enthusiastically show their pride as we celebrate with them.

Imagine a workplace environment where rather than resent or begrudge someone’s success everyone celebrates with them.  Imagine workplace cultures where we cheer on the under-dog, where there are no glass ceilings, and every triumph feels like ours simply by virtue of being part of the same organisation.

Imagine a workplace where there is no back-stabbing, no harmful gossip and no dragging each other down to get ahead. Replace that image with a workplace that is filled with respect, where everyone feels valued and free to strive forward and excel proudly as a professional in their field.

We are all responsible for the culture we accept, we are all professionals, and we all have the right to feel proud and supported for our achievements – whether we’ve achieved a personal best or simply made it through a tough Wednesday. I want workplace cultures where everyone feels valued and celebrated simply for achieving their place in the team. Workplace cultures where once on the team everyone is coached and supported by everyone else to simply be their best.

We’re all professionals in our patch. Not every day is a gold medal day, some days we struggle to make it to the starting line – but - we are on the team, we show up and we’re all brilliant in our own way.  Let’s always remember how great it feels to value and celebrate each other.
